the lightbulbs were burning out within a week or so, so I started looking into it. The wiring was a bit odd but the real problem was that the insulation was deteriorating pretty bad. The wire was caught up in the floor joists and at the top plate when it turned down into the wall. with the hole, I was able ot get the wire through the floor joists but I needed to clamp down some vice grips and bang the, with a hammer to get the wire to pull thru the top plate.
